07-27-2008 - Gambling is over!!
After a week of competition, fierce fights for the title and fascinating and exciting events, a team succeeded in breaking away on the last day (but only with a difference of one gold medal with the second in the classification). Cataluña is the great winner of the 14th edition of the Atlantic Watergames in Getxo and Sopelana, Euskadi.The competition was fascinating: the 7 official teams from the federations of Canary Islands, Norte Portugal, Galicia, Euskadi, Cataluña, Aquitaine and Brittany offered a show worthy of the greatest championships. The competition was really tight until Thursday evening. The winner was only decided between the leaders in the general classification, Cataluña and Euskadi, with the results of the competition of submarine photography.
Cataluña wins the competition with 11 gold medals, followed by Euskadi, host of this year’s games, with 10 gold medals. The Aquitaine, who ends in 3rd position with 6 gold medals, made strong impression on its first participation in the Watergames.
Regarding to the other teams, Norte Portugal reached the 4th position on the general classification with 5 gold medals ; Brittany ends the competition in 5th with 4 gold medals and the Canary Islands in the 6th position with 4 gold medals too (In case of tie, the winner is chosen by the number of 2nd places (silver medals). If there still is a tie, the winner is chosen by the number of 3rd places, then by the number of 4th place, etc… until the 10th place included). Galicia and Wales end the competition on the 7th and 8th positions respectively.
In Sea Rowing, the Aquitaine reaches the 1st place with 3 gold medals, followed by Euskadi with 2 gold medals, and Norte Portugal, 2 gold medals too. Then comes Cataluña (1 gold medal) and Brittany (1 gold medal). Galicia reaches the 6th position in this sport (the Canary Island and Wales were not taking part in the sea rowing competition).
In sea kayak, Cataluña ends the competition in the 1st place with 3 Gold medals, followed by Euskadi in 2nd position with 2 gold medals and Norte Portugal in 3rd position with 2 gold medals too. Brittany reaches the 4th place with 2 gold medals. Galicia ends the competition in the 5th position, followed by the Aquitaine in 6th.
In Surf, Eukadi reaches the 1st place of the podium with a total of 5 gold medals, followed by the Aquitaine, 2nd with 3 gold medals, the Canary Islands, 3rd with 1 gold medals and Norte Portugal, 4th with 1 gold medal too. Brittany and Galicia end on the 5th and 6th position of the surf classification respectively.
In Sailing, Cataluña takes the 1st place of the classification by winning 5 gold medals, followed by the Canary Islands, 2nd with 3 gold medals. Brittany ends on the 3rd place with 1 gold medal, followed by Euskadi in 4th position with 1 gold medal too. Galicia takes the 5th place of the classification, followed by the Aquitaine in the 6th place, Norte Portugal 7th and Wales 8th. In Diving, Cataluña ended on the 1st place of the podium by winning the gold medal. Euskadi is second, followed by Brittany, 3rd, and Norte Portugal. It’s now time to prepare the 15th Watergames, which will be organised by the Metropolitan Area of Oporto and the association Intercéltica, from 3rd to 8th of August 2009. We are expecting an even greater number of teams, with a strong participation of Ireland, Cornwall and Normandy. See you soon!!!
07-24-2008 - Quatrième jour de Compétition
Aujourd’hui, très peu d’épreuves. Les conditions météorologiques n’ont pas permis aux épreuves de voile d’avoir lieu : trop peu de vent. Les manches restantes ont donc été annulées. Les rameurs ont, quant à eux, terminé leurs manches. Après ces ultimes épreuves, le classement a encore une fois subi quelques changements: l’Aquitaine conserve sa place de 1er avec (3 médailles d’or), tandis que le Norte Portugal (2 médailles d’or) cède sa place de 2e au profit de l’Euskadi (2 médailles d’or). Ces trois équipes sont suivies par la Catalogne (1 médaille) et la Bretagne (1 médaille).Pour le moment, l’Euskadi est en tête du classement général des pays avec 10 médailles d’or, suivi par la Catalogne qui compte 9 médailles d’or, l’Aquitaine et ses 6 médailles d’or, le Norte Portugal détenteur de 5 médailles d’or, la Bretagne en possession de 4 médailles d’or et des Canaries, 4 médailles d’or également. Tout va se jouer avec les résultats de la plongée sous-marine : si la Catalogne gagne cette épreuve, elle passe en tête du classement…
Le Classement final définitif ne sera publié que demain, après la cérémonie de Clôture, qui aura lieu demain à 12h00 à Sopelana et qui récompensera la région gagnante. Durant cette cérémonie, l’Aviron, symbole des Jeux Nautiques Interceltiques, passera des mains de l’Euskadi aux mains du Norte Portugal, région organisatrice des Jeux Nautiques Atlantiques 2009.
07-24-2008 - Troisième jour de compétition
C’est sous un soleil torride et une chaleur caniculaire (36° au plus chaud de la journée) que les compétiteurs se sont affrontés hier pour des épreuves d’Aviron de mer, de kayak et de voile.Dans les différentes disciplines, les classements ont subit des modifications, prouvant bien que cette édition des Jeux Nautiques Atlantiques de Getxo et Sopelana, Euskadi serait plus que serrée.
En Kayak de mer, après les épreuves de kayak polo, la Catalogne a pris la tête du Classement (3 médailles d’or), suivie par l’Euskadi (2 médailles d’or), le Norte Portugal (2 médailles d’or) et la Bretagne (2 médailles d’or).
En Aviron de mer, l’Aquitaine garde la tête (4 médailles d’or), suivie par le Norte Portugal (2 médailles d’or), la Catalogne (1 médaille d’or), la Bretagne (1 médaille d’or) et l’Euskadi (1 médaille d’or).
En Voile, la Catalogne conserve la 1e place au classement par discipline (5 médailles d’or), tandis que les Canaries remontent en 2e place du classement (3 médailles d’or), dépassant ainsi la Bretagne 3e au classement (1 médaille d’or) et l’Euskadi (1 médaille d’or).
En ce qui concerne les épreuves de surf, qui sont maintenant terminées, l’Euskadi remporte cette partie de la compétition avec 5 médailles d’or, suivi par l’Aquitaine avec 2 médailles d’or, les Canaries avec 1 médaille d’or et du Norte Portugal, 1 médaille d’or également.
Pour le quatrième jour de compétitions des épreuves de voile et d’aviron de mer sont prévues, les dernières manches.

07-23-2008 - Second day of competition:
This second day of competition was even more fascinating than the first. The General Classification actually suffered some changes: Cataluña is still leading with 8 Gold Medals, followed by Brittany who keeps its second place with 4 Gold Medals, Euskadi stays on the third position 4 Gold Medals and Norte Portugal reaches the 4th place with 4 Gold Medal, taking Aquitaine place (3 Gold Medals) on the classification. In the different disciplines, Aquitaine is leading in sea rowing with 3 Gold Medals, followed by the Norte Portugal and Euskadi. In Kayak, Euskadi is first, followed by Cataluña and Brittany. And in sailing, the Catalans are first, followed by the Bretons and the Canarians. The finals of surf are planned for today, so the results will be available tonight on our website. Little reminder: each winner of each discipline is awarded a Gold Medal, which is taken into account in the discipline classification and in the general country classification. In case of tie, the winner is chosen by the number of 2nd places (silver medals). If there still is a tie, the winner is chosen by the number of 3rd places, then by the number of 4th place, etc… until the 10th place included. 07-22-2008 - Début des competitions
Hier, lundi 21 Juillet, de très belles compétitions en kayak de mer, voile, aviron, plongée et surf. La Catalogne est en tête, avec 6 médailles d’or, suivie de près par la Bretagne (3 médailles d’or), les Canaries (2 médailles d’or), l’Aquitaine (2 médailles d’or) et le Norte Portugal (2 médailles d’or). Aujourd’hui, le début des compétitions de Kayak de course en ligne a montré le niveau très élevé de 4 équipes : Euskadi, le Norte Portugal, l’Aquitaine et la Catalogne. Au vu de ces premiers résultats, la compétition, qui s’annonçait très serrée avant le début des épreuves, confirme qu’elle sera passionnante !!! Demain, les résultats des épreuves du 22 Juillet.
07-20-2008 - Atlantic Watergames 2008, Getxo and Sopelana
Here we are in Getxo and Sopelana for a new edition of the Atlantic Watergames, for the great happiness of a public growing every year!!! After a beautiful opening ceremony (you can find the images on our website) in la Plaza Las Arenas in Getxo, the Competition could finally start. This year, 7 teams equivalent in number of competitors, and with a very good level compete in a very tight competition. As you may have already seen, our website is updated every day, with the results and the pictures of the day. Don’t hesitate in coming back often!!!!!
